Just Eat It

Spring 2014

Just Eat It is a duo of two textile designers, Christina Schmidt and Louise Ravnløkke, who use play and humour in combination with aesthetic approaches to design. The duo is working with textiles unique ways to communicate to the senses.

Textiles can awaken the senses by the tactile nature of the material – and may communicate in a way which cannot be described in words. Schmidt and Ravnløkke is working with this power of textile materials through traditional textile techniques to create structures and manipulate surfaces that appeal to touch and vision.

“Lumpas” is one of the collaboration projects they have designed together. Lumpas is a series of textile artwork for wall decoration. Each artwork, Lumpa, is a three-dimensional illustrative artefact to be seen as an alternative to flat graphic framed prints. They may be used singularly, in smaller selections, or in combination with another wall interior.

A Lumpa is an elastic knitted netting with a heavy organic form covered by a piece of fabric, treated with surface design of textile print and colour variants. The interaction between the knitted netting and the organic fabric form creates a redefined ornamentation of graphic and tactile expression.

The collection of 20 Lumpas was exhibited as a part of the exhibition Production Line Romances at Gallery Højkant in Aarhus (Denmark) in Spring 2024.
